This Privacy Policy describes how Everstory ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information obtained from users of our website (the “Site”), application (the “App”), and online services (the Site, the App and online services are collectively the "Services"), including children under the age of 13, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") and other applicable data privacy laws.

We design Everstory first and foremost for the benefit of the child user. We collect only what will support the best experience for the child. We collect only what is necessary to use the Services and support the best experience for the child. We may collect the following categories of personal information:

Direct from the Parents/Guardians or Their Child (the “User”)

Parent/Guardian Email: to create an account, login, and provide consent
User’s First Name or Nickname: optional, to identify the User while using the Services
User’s Age: to help us understand the ages of those who are using the Services
Country of Residence: optional, to help us understand where the Services are being used
Language Preference: to help ensure the User can understand the content
In-App Learning Progress and Content Selection: to provide Users the option to revisit and review content they have explored

Technical Device Details

Device Type, OS, General App Analytics: no precise geo-location data
IP Address: used only for security, not stored long-term
Cookies only for essential functions: no behavioral tracking, no ad-targeting

We do not require users to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to use the Services.

3. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

To provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services.
To verify identity and obtain verifiable parental consent where required.
To communicate with Users and their parents/guardians, as applicable, regarding account activity, updates, or customer service inquiries.

For internal research, analytics, and security purposes, including fraud prevention and debugging.

4. Limited Use by Service Providers

We do not sell User data to third party service providers. We share information with third-party service providers only to the extent necessary for them to perform internal operating functions for the Services, including hosting our platform and processing donations. These service providers are contractually prohibited from using the information for any purpose other than providing the specific service requested by us. We may disclose personal information if required to do so by law, such as in response to a court order, a subpoena, or a specific request from a law enforcement agency to comply with legal obligations or to protect the safety of our users.

5. Parental Rights and Controls

Parents or legal guardians have the right to:

Review the types of information we share with our third-party service providers.
Request deletion of their child's personal information.
Refuse further collection or use of their child's personal information.

6. AI-Assisted Search Function

We want to help your child find what they are looking for quickly! To do this, we use a tool called Whisper (via Lemonfox) to power our voice-to-text search feature, which is integrated into the Services.

What happens when you search: When you speak a question into
our search page on the app, Whisper converts that voice question from speech to text in order to accurately ask for (query) and return search results.
What data is shared: Only the words you type or speak in the search bar are shared with the Whisper interface. We do not send your name, email, or any other private information to Whisper.
No "Memory": We have asked Whisper not to "learn" from or remember your specific searches. Once Whisper gives you your answer, Whisper deletes the search text from their systems. It is not authorized to use your information for any other purpose.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify Users, and their parents/guardians as applicable, of material changes to this Privacy Policy as required by law. Continued use of the Services after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

9. Important Notice to Users Outside the U.S.

The Site and the Services are operated in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us will be transferred to the United States. By providing us with any information through the Site or the Services, you consent to this transfer.
